Sydney Roosters suffer major blow

Sydney Roosters have suffered a major blow to one of their stars before the season has even begun.

Hooker Sam Verrills has broken his thumb at training, which will sideline him for over a month.

Channel 9’s Danny Weidler reported that Verrills is set to miss the next four weeks after suffering a broken thumb at training with utility Connor Watson set to start in the No.9 jersey against the Knights on Saturday.

Watson may be the first choice hooker for the next month at least after Verrills’ injury.

Verrills is contracted until 2024, but with Brandon Smith arriving next season he was keen to have a big year to impress NRL rivals or Roosters coach Trent Robinson.
