Sydney Roosters prop Siosiua Taukeaiho will be a Super League player in 2023

22nd February 2020, Totally Wicked Stadium, St Helens, England; World Club Challenge, Saint Helens v Sydney Roosters : Siosiua Taukeiaho (10) of Sydney Roosters

When Fox Sports journalists were discussing Payne Haas’ future at Brisbane Broncos, they happened to stumble across confirmation that another NRL prop would be moving to Super League.

Australian reporter Danny Weidler, when discussing Haas’ potential $1 million contract at Brisbane, mentioned a potential move to Sydney Roosters.

In doing so, he also touched on the future of Siosiua Taukeiaho – the cornerstone of the Sydney and Tonga pack in recent years.

“I don’t know whether you could pick him up for less than a million and if they don’t get the million a year, given the market value they consider him to be I think there could be a problem for the Broncos, I think that they’ll have a disgruntled player on their hands and who knows where that could go after that,” Weidler said.

“I do know that the Roosters are looking to restructure their forwards these next couple of years. They’ve got Sio Siua Taukeiaho he’s off next year to the Super League, big Jared (Waerea-Hargreaves) has been a fantastic player for them for a very long time, I think he’s got another year on contract.”

Catalans Dragons have been linked with a move for Taukeiaho and it was reported before Christmas that a deal had been signed after Hull FC were also interested.

But, the French club has yet to confirm a deal, though it appears set in stone that he will join Super League from 2023 onwards.
