Swinton snap up ex-St Helens playmaker

Swinton Lions have announced the signing of former St Helens halfback Lewis Charnock from Oldham.

Although primarily a halfback, Charnock is a versatile player, and can also cover a number of other positions. Charnock also has Super League experience from his time with St Helens up to 2016, where he made six appearances, scoring two tries and converting eight goals.

After signing for Swinton, Charnock said: “I can’t wait to meet the boys and get started, and to get this club back into the Championship.”

Head Coach Allan Coleman added: “Lewis is the last signing for us for next season. He has lots of experience at all levels and will give us plenty of options, Lewis can play halfback, nine, or 13 which is very rare.

“He has a good attitude and fits in with our ethos. I’m sure he will be a valuable player for us.”

Swinton were relegated from the Championship in 2021 with just two wins from 22 games, with a stint in League 1 now in sight for the 2022 season.
