Swinton Lions head coach set for tribunal after vile allegations

Swinton Lions

After almost two months of investigation into his conduct, Swinton Lions head coach Alan Kilshaw has a tribunal date set.

In July, Nick Gregson, via Twitter, commented shortly after his side lost 24-12 to Swinton Lions in the RFL Championship.

He alleged that Swinton coach Alan Kilshaw had encouraged his players to target his shoulder – which he had problems with during his time at Swinton last year.

Attached to the tweet was an image of his headshot, with the words ‘GREGSON; BULLY HIM’, and a noose photoshopped around his neck.

After this, Widnes Vikings confirmed they had contacted the RFL and shared a message of support for Gregson.

Swinton Lions, meanwhile, “refuted” the accuracy of the image and claimed they are were contact with the RFL and solicitors.

Soon after the allegations were made, Salford Red Devils recalled young Kai Morgan from a loan deal with the club, while St Helens fans called on their club to end their dual-registration agreement.

That was two months ago, and now, finally, there has been an update on the Lions coach.

Now, Love Rugby League have revealed that a tribunal date has been set, where Kilshaw will learn his fate.

He will face the Operational Rules Tribunal on the 9th of October, which is after the conclusion of the RFL Championship season, but shortly before a relegation play-off match that they could potentially be part of.

That would include the 12th-placed Championship side – with the Lions 13th, two points behind Whitehaven.

Another Championship head coach that will be subject to the Tribunal this year is Mark Aston of Sheffield Eagles.

He, alongside physio Mick Keys, were suspended on a “no fault basis” due to a “medical compliance matter”.

The outcome of that is currently unknown.
