Swinton confirm board appointments

Swinton Lions have confirmed the appointment of four new board directors to secure the short-term future of the club.

Four directors walked away from the club a few months ago. This came after an idea was submitted to change the name of the club to Manchester Lions.

Former member Stuart Fletcher returns to the club after being part of the financial restructure of the club in 2017. He told the club website: “I am thrilled to become a Director of this great club, one that I have followed for 50 years.

“I acknowledge the responsibility which comes with the position, and I will commit all my skills and energy to take this club forward and succeed against the challenges ahead.”

Chairman of the Supporters Trust Stephen Parker will also take a place on the board. He added: “I am proud and honoured to be joining the Board.

“The Trust and its band of superb volunteers will continue to assist the club operationally and financially, and I am excited to be promoting and embracing the vision of the Lions’ Family.”

Also on the board is Lindsey Smethills, who has been operating as Commercial Manager. A popular businesswoman in the area, she adds: “My father played professionally and I’ve always loved the sport.

“I am confident that I can make a significant commercial contribution to the Lions over the coming months and years, and I’m thrilled to be involved.”

Finally, local councillor Stuart Dickman completes the new-look board. He comments: “It is an incredible honour to be a Director of Swinton Lions, the club my father played for in the 1970s.

“The spirit of the club belongs to the fans, and I will do all I can to support it going forward.”

This is welcome news for the Lions as they can now start planning ahead to the 2020 Championship season.
