Leeds Rhinos star Aidan Sezer faces an uncertain future just like other halfbacks at Wigan Warriors, Leigh Leopards, Catalans Dragons and Salford Red Devils.
Sezer moved to Super League in 2020 with Huddersfield Giants and in his first season was nominated for the Man of Steel as he made an immediate impression.
However that impression dissipated in 2021 when he suffered a long term injury ending his Huddersfield career ahead of a move to Leeds.
Sezer struggled at the start of his Headingley stint playing with a groin injury which eventually became too much for the halfback.
On his return he would prove key scoring vital tries against Castleford Tigers and Catalans Dragons as the club made their way to the Grand Final which he missed through injury.
In 2023 we have seen some great showings from Sezer but he is reportedly headed home with the Wests Tigers thought to be his destination but there has been a surprise twist.
As Shane Flanagan begins his rebuild of the St George Illawarra Dragons looking to bring son and former Hull FC and Leeds Rhinos target Kyle Flanagan to the club and shake things up.
He has also told a number of players that they can leave. Josh Kerr has already joined The Dolphins despite interest from the Warrington Wolves.
Now Moses Mbye looks headed for St Helens. The club have also granted Jayden Sullivan permission to leave and negotiate with other clubs which has already begun.
A great young halfback, his availability will have been noted by a number of club.
Just 21 years old, he has made 27 appearances for the Dragons debuting at 18 in 2020.
He has scored seven tries and notched three goals during his emerging NRL career.
It is believed the most likely destination for Sullivan is Wests so what this would mean for Sezer is unsure.
Either way it seems Sezer won’t be a Leeds player come this time next year.
The interesting question is whether or not halfback partner Blake Austin will remain at the club in 2024 with big questions also being asked about Sezer’s former Canberra Raiders teammate and where he will end up.
