Melbourne winger Josh Addo-Carr cemented his place in the history books today, crossing for six tries – the first time this feat has ever been achieved in the NRL.
Not since Newtown’s Jack Troy in 1950 had a player crossed the line for six tries in a game and no player in Storm history had scored more than four tries in a match, a tally Addo-Carr had notched by half-time. The winger brought up his fifth in the 67th minute and then made in the 72nd minute as Melbourne racked up the half-century.
But, just how did social media react to the record-breaking day?
One Twitter user hailed the six-try performance of Addo-Carr, but also the Melbourne effort as a whole.
That was simply the perfect Storm! No one in their wildest dreams could have expected Josh Addo-Carr to score six! 😮 And in my view, that was one of the Storm's greatest-ever performances (which is saying something)! Even the Panthers would have been scared watching from home!

Another used humour and a throwback to try and compete with the winger.
Josh Addo-Carr scored 6 tries today for Melbourne Storm and Twitter is going crazy.
No big deal really. I did the same for Illingworth ARLFC. Took 12 years and included training games though 😬#RugbyLeague #fox 🦊 #trymachine 🏉 #NRLSouthsStorm

Someone hailed Addo-Carr’s humble attitude after the game too.
Josh Addo-Carr breaks a 71 year record for most tries scored in a game and still manages to talk more about the team’s performance than his own. Just incredible #NRL #NRLRabbitohsStorm

Another couldn’t believe that South Sydney had let the flying winger leave the club.
Can you believe Souths let Josh Addo Carr go?

However, a different Twitter user couldn’t believe that Addo-Carr will be swapping Melbourne for Canterbury in 2022.

Someone even compared Addo-Carr to the whole Bulldogs side.
The Bulldogs have scored 14 tries in 8 games this season.
Josh Addo-Carr has scored 6 tries in 1 game.

One hilariously compared the winger’s exploits to those people engage in in the bedroom.
Sure sex is good, but have you ever watched Josh Addo-Carr score 6 tries in a match ? #NRLRabbitohsStorm

Another compared Addo-Carr to other “try-scoring freaks.”
Matty Bowen, Rhys Wesser, Nathan Merritt and Brett Stewart were among the try-scoring freaks I remember witnessing as a kid. Josh Addo-Carr is very comfortable in that company. A privilege to watch play.#NRL #NRLRabbitohsStorm
