As owner of Betfred – the bookmaking company which has taken the world and Super League by storm – Fred Done is more than happy about what he has achieved.

However, in his latest partnership with Super League, it has brought him closer to a team that is thoroughly engrained where he grew up – Salford.

That being said, Done reveals that a lack of time has stopped him from ever investing in the Red Devils.

“I was running the business,” Done told the Out Of Your League podcast.

“It was like saying ‘why did you not buy Manchester United?’ when I had the chance.

“I was building a business and I was just working for the business – and I thought my money was better going in that.”

With Done saying ‘who knows?’ when asked if he would invest in Salford, he also said how he would go about investing his money.

“You know what I’d do if I bought Salford?

“I’d get the Pep Guardiola of rugby league and I’d say ‘we’re going to do something with this club, we’re going to be the best’ because Salford have never proved it.

“You’ve got to be better than St Helens and you’ve got to be better than Wigan or Castleford or Leeds.

“If it takes five years, we’ll do it – but we’ll be number one.”
