Every Super League side’s youngster to look out for in 2025

Super League trophy

Super League has a rich heritage of developing young talent in recent years.

A number of young stars have headed over to NRL, such as Will Pryce, Dom Young, Kai Pearce-Paul and most recently, Lewis Dodd and Matty Nicholson.

However, there are plenty left in the division, and here’s a particular player to look out for ahead of the 2025 season.

Without injury, Cain Robb may have gone on to really make waves within Super League towards the back-end of the 2024 campaign.

Named young player of the year for the club despite the late impressive displays from Jensen Windley and Fletcher Rooney, he’ll be behind Judah Rimbu in the pecking order next year at number nine, but could certainly begin to show his class on his return.

Catalans Dragons – Guillermo Aispuro-Bichet

In 2023, he had made two international appearances for France, and scored against Kenya, but had to wait until July of this year to make his Super League debut.

The centre made five appearances in 2024 as a centre and went on to start against Ukraine in a key World Cup qualifying game where he scored two tries.

He could certainly break into the star-studded side on occasion next year.

Huddersfield Giants – Fenton Rogers

A rare forward in this list, Fenton Rogers managed 12 Super League appearances in 2024, even popping up with a try against Salford Red Devils.

If he can be disciplined, he could get even better next year.

Hull FC – Jack Charles

There aren’t many half-backs to have made this many Super League appearances at just 18, but in his first Super League season, he made 16 appearances in an admittedly very poor Hull FC side.

He’s capable at full-back too, so could get a number of appearances under his belt next year as a result.

Hull KR – Phoenix Laulu-Togaga’e

Not a huge number of young players to pick from for the Robins but 21-year-old Laulu-Togaga’e, son of former Castleford man Quentin, made a number of appearances for Oldham in the Championship last year and has extended his loan until the end of 2025. Rovers will be keeping a keen eye on his progress and they could even recall him should injuries occur.

Leeds Rhinos – Alfie Edgell

Still only 20, Edgell is a full-back by trade but played pretty consistently on the wing for the Rhinos last year following the injury to Ash Handley.

With Maika Sivo and Ryan Hall added to the ranks for next year, he may see his time on the wing pretty limited in 2025, but if he’s anywhere near as good at full-back, he may put some pressure on Lachie Miller, and could certainly be a good, versatile bench option for Brad Arthur.

A memorable four-try display against Hull FC was the best of his 15 appearances last year, and he’ll surely be hoping to back that up with more opportunities in 2025.

Leigh Leopards – Umyla Hanley

Looking to emulate father Ellery, Hanley actually made his first top-flight appearance four years ago for Wigan Warriors, but is still just 22.

Two hat-tricks in a row early on in 2024, against Featherstone Rovers and Salford Red Devils, were the highlight of his season, but the tries dried up and he moved to centre for much of the campaign in the end.

However, with so much experience – 14 tries in 38 games in the division – he could certainly see 2025 as an opportunity to really cement a starting spot.

Salford Red Devils – Charlie Glover

Another side without a huge number of young players in the first-team, the Red Devils have brought Glover into the squad for the first time for 2025.

He made his debut in defeat to Wigan Warriors in the final game of the regular season last campaign, when Paul Rowley rested a huge number of players ahead of the play-offs.

He will hope to make the season his own, and with the club now having an academy licence, he could be followed by more young players in the future.

St Helens – Lewis Murphy

There are a lot of players that could have got the nod from Saints, such as Harry Robertson, George Delaney and Jake Burns.

However, Lewis Murphy is picked here after an incredible tally of 19 tries in 24 Super League appearances for Wakefield Trinity before a disappointing, injury-riddled spell with Sydney Roosters.

At just 22, he’s got plenty of room to improve, but it will be interesting to see how he fares after having a long spell without playing consistently, with the pressure of being Saints and being with a new team.

Wakefield Trinity – Seth Nikotemo

A 20-year-old moving across the world isn’t too common in rugby league, and it’s a huge risk for the young Seth Nikotemo, but he clearly believes he’s ready to be a starting back-rower in first grade play.

Trinity clearly believe that too, as they’ve handed him a three-year deal, and Gold Coast Titans maybe did too as he was in their top 30 in 2024.

All this adds up to suggest he could certainly be one to watch next year.

Warrington Wolves – Leon Hayes

An ACL injury prevented the young playmaker from having a special campaign, and who knows the levels he could have reached as part of a spectacular Warrington Wolves side under Sam Burgess.

He’s been handed the starting number seven squad number for 2025, though, showing that they have high hopes for the 20-year-old.

Wigan Warriors – Jack Farrimond

We couldn’t exactly go for Junior Nsemba here, as he’s already one of the very best in the world in his position.

Therefore, we’ve gone for Jack Farrimond, who slotted into the halves mid-season in 2024 as a result of injury to Bevan French, and capped off his time with tries against Hull FC and rivals St Helens.

His inexperience was clear to see in that spell, but so were some touches of brilliance on the ball that show that he could be a very good option for the Warriors if he can ever get into that formidable halves partnership of French and Harry Smith.
