Super League youngster faces mammoth suspension

Sadly last week one of the reserves fixtures was marred by a nasty red card.

Salford Red Devils’ Jordan Brown was sent off for punching Castleford Tigers centre Callum Hutchinson whilst he was still on the floor in an incident which evoked memories of Ben Flower’s infamous red card for Wigan Warriors in the 2014 Grand Final against St Helens and more recently Gil Dudson’s red card against Catalans Dragons for punching Tom Johnstone.

“Early red card for Salford as Brown is sent off for punching Hutchinson whilst the Cas man was on the ground,” Castleford’s Twitter page summed up the incident.

Brown is 22 and still has his whole career ahead of him and could still develop into a top prop.

He previously played for Swinton Lions.

He now however faces a mammoth ban for his punch in the game.

Today he was charged with a Grade E offence for punching which can be punished with up to six games suspension.

It was a funny old game between the Red Devils and the Tigers as it also saw former Hull KR and Halifax Panthers man Scott Murrell come out of retirement to play for the Tigers.

Murrell is a coach at Castleford and has come out of retirement to help ease the club’s injury woes.
