Well, that’s another weekend of Super League action done and dusted and what a weekend it was!
It began on Thursday night with Hull KR just about overcoming Toulouse Olympique despite an impressive and hard-fought showing from the French side who led for most of the game before going down 22-16.
Friday night saw Huddersfield Giants host Hull FC and they too had to rely on two late scores from Danny Levi to eventually get rid of their Black and White opponents who were up 16-6 at one stage.
The same evening saw Wigan Warriors take on Warrington Wolves, and, whilst Daryl Powell’s men went toe to toe with Matt Peet’s side for most of the night, Wigan blew the score out to 32-6 by the end of the night.
Move forward to Sunday and Castleford Tigers were let down by conversions against St Helens live on Channel 4 as the West Yorkshire club went down 20-12 in the first of three Sunday games.
Then it was the turn of Leeds Rhinos to put in-form Salford Red Devils to the sword in a big 34-14 win that underlined their consistent improvement under new boss Rohan Smith whilst Wakefield Trinity failed to exploit their home advantage against Catalans Dragons. The French side toiled after some horrendous injuries, but managed to cling on for a vital 20-16 victory.
But, who is in the Super League Team of the Week?
1. Jai Field – Wigan Warriors
Another week another Jai Field masterclass. He ended up being the difference between Wigan and Warrington on Friday night.
2. Fouad Yaha – Catalans Dragons
A 14-minute hat-trick against Wakefield was emphatic to say the least as Fouad Yaha enjoyed some great skill on the onside from the likes of Arthur Mourgue.
3. Harry Newman – Leeds Rhinos
This man just keeps getting better and better in a Leeds shirt and Harry Newman had an absolute ball against Salford this afternoon.
4. Shaun Kenny-Dowall – Hull KR
How influential can one man be in one team? Shaun Kenny-Dowall produced an absolute captain’s masterclass against Toulouse on Thursday night.
5. Liam Marshall – Wigan Warriors
If Bevan French and Jai Field continue to get all the limelight then Liam Marshall certainly deserves the plaudits, too. The winger scored a hat-trick against Warrington on Friday night and produced some wonderful touches.
6. Richie Myler – Leeds Rhinos
Richie Myler is in the form of his life at present at Leeds and he had another important performance in the Rhinos’ fixture against Salford this afternoon.
7. Danny Richardson – Castleford Tigers
With Castleford down 20-0, they needed some inspiration and Danny Richardson provided it with a superb 40/20. Credit to the halfback, he tried all day and gave it his absolute all against his former side.
8. George King – Hull KR
For the second week in a row, George King forced his way into the Team of the Week with a massive knock against Toulouse.
9. Brad Dwyer – Leeds Rhinos
It’s really baffling as to why Leeds and Rohan Smith are not keeping Brad Dwyer at the club considering how influential the hooker actually is at Headingley. And, the wily number nine had a brilliant game against Salford.
10. Mikolaj Oledzki – Leeds Rhinos
When Leeds needed their big men to stand up and be counted, towering prop Mikolaj Oledzki was in brilliant form.
11. Curtis Sironen – St Helens
St Helens boss Kristian Woolf hailed Curtis Sironen as ‘one of the best’ Saints players in recent weeks and it’s easy to see why
12. Rhyse Martin – Leeds Rhinos
What a signing this man is turning out to be at Headingley! Over the years, Rhyse Martin has shown his worth to Leeds, but in 2022 that seems to have gone up another level with another dominant performance against Salford.
13. Morgan Knowles – St Helens
As tough as teak and as important to this Saints outfit as anyone, Morgan Knowles scored against Castleford and produced some key touches.
Substitutes
14. Bureta Faraimo – Castleford Tigers
Scoring a hat-trick and being on the losing side is always a kick in the teeth, but that’s what happened to Bureta Faraimo this afternoon against St Helens.
15. Sosaia Feki – Castleford Tigers
After three years, Sosaia Feki finally made his first-team appearance for Castleford, coming off the bench and taking some big runs in. What a moment for the Australian.
16. Bevan French – Wigan Warriors
Despite not scoring, Bevan French still deserves a place in this side after carving up Warrington on numerous occasions on Friday night.
17. Jack Walker – Hull FC
He can’t displace Jai Field at fullback, but Jack Walker still deserves a place in the Team of the Week after another accomplished performance in the Black and White jersey against Huddersfield.
