Well, that’s another weekend of rugby league done and dusted and a what a weekend it was!
Huddersfield Giants and Leeds Rhinos kicked things off on Friday night, with the Giants running out easy winners before Wigan Warriors did exactly the same against Salford Red Devils live on Sky Sports as Bevan French and Jai Field ran amok at the AJ Bell Stadium
Catalans Dragons inflicted a hefty 36-8 defeat on Hull FC who were never at the races which set up a three-game Sunday for the first time in a long while.
Castleford Tigers just about scraped home against Toulouse Olympique in the south of France before Wakefield Trinity scored with three minutes remaining to lead the West Yorkshire club to a priceless victory over Warrington Wolves.
To round off the weekend, St Helens grabbed a narrow win over Hull KR in a 26-18 win in what proved to be James Roby’s record-breaking Super League appearance.
But, just who deserves a place in the Team of the Week?
1. Ryan Hampshire – Castleford Tigers
He has been a breath of fresh air for Castleford since joining as a free agent earlier in the year. And, he proved the difference between a win and a loss in Toulouse with some incredible last-ditch tackles.
2. Bevan French – Wigan Warriors
There really is no substitute for pace and Bevan French has it in abundance. The makeshift winger scored three fantastic tries and ripped Salford apart on numerous occasions.
3. James Batchelor – Wakefield Trinity
Selected in the centres due to the injury to Reece Lyne, Joe Batchelor was in fine form, crossing for a double as he more than made his mark out of position in a great Wakefield win over Warrington.
4. Ricky Leutele – Huddersfield Giants
This man just keeps on getting better and better and Ricky Leutele enjoyed yet another brilliant game against Leeds on Friday night.
5. Liam Marshall – Wigan Warriors
What a season this man is having! Another two tries for Liam Marshall and an accomplished performance against Salford firmly puts the winger in Shaun Wane’s sights for England.
6. Mitchell Pearce – Catalans Dragons
Mitchell Pearce was in inspiring form as Catalans put Hull FC to the word on Saturday evening. The halfback really is taking to Super League like a duck to water.
7. Harry Smith – Wigan Warriors
Harry Smith may have been wayward with some of his conversions against Salford on Friday night, but the halfback was in an absolutely rampant mood with some excellent touches and passes.
8. Alex Walmsley – St Helens
There were some big lung-busting runs from the St Helens prop as the Merseyside club just about got over the line against Hull KR.
9. James Roby – St Helens
It couldn’t have been anyone else but this man in what proved to be James Roby’s record-breaking appearance in Super League. The hooker also scored a try in St Helens’ narrow win over Hull KR.
10. Matty English – Huddersfield Giants
The ‘Polar Bear’ as he is so affectionately known at the John Smith’s Stadium had another strong game in the win over Leeds.
11. Kenny Edwards – Castleford Tigers
Yet another stellar game from Kenny Edwards who seems to be absolutely loving his time at the Jungle. The second-rower took the game to Toulouse this afternoon and was the Tigers’ most impressive performer.
12. Chris McQueen – Huddersfield Giants
Another great performance from Chris McQueen in Huddersfield’s big win over Leeds on Friday night as he further underlined his Super League Dream Team credentials.
13. Joe Westerman – Castleford Tigers
When Castleford needed their big men to stand up in the heat of Toulouse, Joe Westerman did just that with some important touches. He has arguably been one of the Tigers’ most impressive players in 2022 and he showed just why this afternoon.
Substitutes
14. Patrick Mago – Wigan Warriors
Wigan have been able to bring Patrick Mago off the bench to great effect in his first season in Super League and he produced some great runs against Salford on Friday night to get the Warriors on the front foot.
15. Agnatius Paasi – St Helens
The destructive Tongan international just gets better and better with Agnatius Paasi enjoying some bulldozing carries against Hull KR this afternoon. He really has proved to be a shrewd signing by Kristian Woolf at St Helens.
16. Kelepi Tanginoa – Wakefield Trinity
Wakefield needed some fresh legs in their war of attrition against Warrington this afternoon and they found inspiration in the shape of Kelepi Tanginoa who not only caused havoc for the Wolves’ left edge defence but also scored the winning try.
17. Lachlan Coote – Hull KR
Despite being on the losing side for Hull KR against St Helens this afternoon, Lachlan Coote just had to be included here with two tries and an overall great game against his former club.
