Super League team of the week as Wigan Warriors and Hull KR men lead way

Wigan Warriors Super League

Round four of Super League is in the books and we now have a clear leader at the top of the table. Hull KR are the only side remaining with a 100 per cent record as they saw off St Helens at the Totally Wicked Stadium.

Leigh Leopards are now a point behind them, having drawn at Hull FC on Thursday night, while Wigan Warriors beat Huddersfield Giants to claim their third straight win. Elsewhere, Wakefield Trinity saw off Warrington Wolves and Catalans Dragons and Castleford Tigers got off the mark by beating Leeds Rhinos and Salford Red Devils respectively.

With that in mind, here’s our Super League team of round four.

Full back: David Armstrong (Leigh Leopards)

Missed training in the build-up to the clash due to illness but you wouldn’t have thought it. Armstrong was electric at the MKM Stadium, scoring two tries and generally terrorising the home side with his pace.

Wing: Tom Davies (Hull KR)

A spectacular finish in the corner just before the break helped set Rovers on their way to victory at St Helens. He made 161 metres in 21 carries, too.

Centre: Oliver Gildart (Hull KR)

A brace in the north west for the former Wigan Warriors man, with Joe Burgess somewhat generously setting up both. That’ll be something for Gildart to build off as the season progresses.

Centre: Reimis Smith (Catalans Dragons)

It was a poor game in the south of France but Smith helped to provide glimpses of quality, with his brace helping to see off Leeds Rhinos at the Stade Gilbert Brutus.

Wing: Innes Senior (Castleford Tigers)

He didn’t get over the line against the Red Devils, but he made a huge impact with his running game, going for 192 metres.

Half-back: Mikey Lewis (Hull KR)

A try and an assist at the Totally Wicked Stadium, Lewis was instrumental in KR’s fourth straight Super League victory on his return from an ankle issue.

Half-back: Harry Smith (Wigan Warriors)

Another huge performance from the scrum-half, who helped Wigan seize control of the contest in the second half. He kicked two 40/20s and left the Brick Community Stadium with another assist in the bag.

Prop: Herman Ese’ese (Hull FC)

Another big showing from the powerful frontman. Ese’ese grabbed a try and played big minutes for the Black and Whites, totalling 162 metres and 44 tackles made.

Hooker: Liam Hood (Wakefield Trinity)

One try and two assists for Hood on what was a special day for Wakefield at the Halliwell Jones Stadium. The hooker has looked the part since stepping back into Super League and he was firing on all cylinders on Sunday.

Prop: Matty Storton (Wakefield Trinity)

Moved into the middle as part of a pack shake-up, Storton got over the line at Warrington, while he made 83 metres and 25 tackles.

Second-row: Jed Cartwright (Hull FC)

A huge effort from the head coach’s son, Cartwright scored the first try of the game and produced five offloads in the game to keep Hull moving in the right direction. On top of that he made 100 metres and 54 tackles.

Second-row: Liam Farrell (Wigan Warriors)

A couple of tries for Wigan’s stalwart skipper, Farrell supported play well for his first before being the man that wanted it more than anyone else for his second, pouncing on the loose ball.

Loose-forward: Mike McMeeken (Wakefield Trinity)

McMeeken ran for 170 metres in Warrington on Sunday, add in the 36 tackles he made and that’s some going for the big middle.
