Super League team of the week as Leigh Leopards, Wigan Warriors and Wakefield Trinity men dominate

Super League

The regular Super League season came to an end on Friday night with 27 rounds of action now complete.

As such, while the bottom half of the table winds down with their season over, the top half now find themselves looking forward to the play-offs with Old Trafford looming.

Hull KR wrapped up the League Leaders’ Shield by beating Warrington Wolves at Craven Park on Thursday night, while Catalans Dragons beat Hull FC on the other side of the city.

Friday saw wins for St Helens, Leigh Leopards, Wigan Warriors and Wakefield Trinity and all four will be involved in knockout rugby.

With that in mind, here’s our team of the week from round 27

Super League team of the week

Full-back: Arthur Mourgue (Hull KR)

A match winning showing from the full-back who scored the decisive try from 85 metres to secure the League Leaders’ Shield for KR. He made two clean breaks, broke eight tackles and racked up 176 metres.

Wing: Will Tate (Castleford Tigers)

A hat-trick for the youngster, who has missed plenty of game time through injury this season. He took them all well, too.

Centre: Cam Scott (Wakefield Trinity)

Another player to grab a hat-trick on Friday night. He helped put Salford to the sword with three tries, two clean breaks and 169m made.

Centre: Nick Cotric (Catalans Dragons)

A powerful showing from Cotric, who broke seven tackles, got himself over the line and played a key role in Catalans’ win over Hull FC.

Wing: Harvey Barron (Hull FC)

He brought the curtain down on a fine individual campaign with two tries, with his second effort from distance being spectacular.

Half-back: Bevan French (Wigan Warriors)

He’s in ominous form as the play-offs arrive and French scored two and set one up on Friday night.

Half-back: Tyrone May (Hull KR)

A talismanic showing from the scrum-half, who scored twice against Warrington Wolves, made 28 tackles and broke eight tackles.

Prop: Joe Ofahengaue (Leigh Leopards)

A powerful showing from the prop, who racked up 109 metres in the win over Huddersfield Giants.

Hooker: Brad Dwyer (Leigh Leopards)

Two tries and an assist for the hooker who is off contract at the end of the season and is playing for a new deal either at Leigh or elsewhere.

Prop: Ky Rodwell (Wakefield Trinity)

He hasn’t had many minutes but it seems he was keen to make up for lost time on Friday with the forward scoring a try, busting seven tackles and making 132m off the bench.

Second-row: Frankie Halton (Leigh Leopards)

Leigh’s unsung hero is developing a knack of getting over the line. He scored again on Friday night while also making 35 tackles.

Second-row: Sam Walters (Wigan Warriors)

A huge showing from Walters saw him rack up 45 tackles with 116 metres made with the ball in hand to boot.

Loose-forward: James Bell (St Helens)

Morgan Knowles played well but so did Bell, with the forward playing a couple of different roles through the middle and marking his last home game in a Saints shirt with a try.
