Round 24 is in the bag and with three more rounds to play, we’re starting to have an idea of how the final Super League table might look.
Hull KR were the big winners of the round as they moved to within touching distance of the League Leaders’ Shield, but elsewhere there were wins for Wigan Warriors, Leeds Rhinos and Leigh Leopards, who all kept up the pace in the top two battle.
Wakefield Trinity moved up to sixth with the win over Huddersfield Giants, while Sam Burgess’ Warrington Wolves were embarrassed on their own patch by Salford Red Devils.
Here’s our team of the week.
Super League round 24 team of the week
Full-back: Jai Field (Wigan Warriors)
Looking a lot more like himself with Bevan French back in the line to occupy the thoughts of defenders. He made 207 metres, scored two tries and set one up in Perpignan on Saturday in what was another excellent showing.
Wing: Liam Marshall (Wigan Warriors)
A hat-trick for the winger who hasn’t been quite as prolific this season with the three he scored on Saturday taking his tally to 12 for the year.
Centre: Mark Percival (St Helens)
Percival was on the losing team at Craven Park, but he was one of the most impressive players on the park and according to the Super League stats, he broke 18 tackles. He made 159m from 24 carries too.
Centre: Umyla Hanley (Leigh Leopards)
Part of a Leigh attack that simply blew Castleford away. His teammate Tesi Niu got 146m compared to Hanley’s 80m, but the Englishman grabbed an assist, made 16 tackles, bust three tackles and more than looked the part.
Wing: Matty Russell (Wakefield Trinity)
A spectacular performance from the winger, who will be leaving Wakefield at the end of the season. He grabbed two tries, broke 13 tackles and made 192 metres.
Half-back: Lachlan Lam (Leigh Leopards)
We’ve got Jake Connor in the scrum-half role, but Lam was so good he has to be in this team, too. Three assists, one try as well as five tackle busts, a clean break and 18 carries. It truly was a masterclass from the Papua New Guinea international
Half-back: Jake Connor (Leeds Rhinos)
Simply magical at times. The scrum-half recorded four assists, scored a spectacular solo effort and quite frankly bullied his former club Hull FC.
Prop: Alec Tuitavake (Leigh Leopards)
Two tries and an assist on what was a spectacular night for the Leigh prop, who came off the bench against the Tigers. He also broke five tackles on the night.
Hooker: Jez Litten (Hull KR)
A magnificent night at hooker as Litten staked his claim for an England spot. The Hull KR man completed 42 tackles in the game and while he didn’t carry as often as Daryl Clark, he did make four decent dummy half runs.
Prop: Justin Sangare (Salford Red Devils)
It’s rare for a Salford player to feature in a team of the week this season but Justin Sangare is more than deserving of a spot. The prop scored two tries, carried 22 times, broke six tackles and 32 of his own.
Second-row: Morgan Gannon (Leeds Rhinos)
Touched down a Jake Connor grubber during a period of real dominance for the Rhinos and performed really well throughout at the MKM Stadium.
Second-row: Frankie Halton (Leigh Leopards)
He passed the eye test, but his stats make for great reading, too. The back-rower scored the opening try of the game for the Leopards before making 29 tackles and 97 metres with the ball in hand.
Loose-forward: Elliot Minchella (Hull KR)
A captain’s performance from the Rovers loose-forward. He played huge minutes for Robins, made 41 tackles and ran for 74m.
