Super League team of the week as Leeds Rhinos, Wigan Warriors and St Helens dominate

Super League

Round three of Super League in the books and the league table is beginning to take shape already.

Here’s a look at our team of the week.

Full-back: Jai Field (Wigan Warriors)

He’s on for a Man of Steel winning year if he can keep this early form up. Field scored two tries and set up two more against Leigh, but that only tells half the story, with the full-back also breaking through 11 tackles, hitting two clean breaks and running for 171 metres.

Wing: Maika Sivo (Leeds Rhinos)

Las Vegas is considered to be the entertainment capital of the world and Sivo certainly put on a show on Saturday night with four tries of the highest order. The winger scored two last week against York Knights but he has well and truly exploded on the Super League stage now.

Centre: Waqa Blake (Bradford Bulls)

What a start he has made to the Super League season. He scored another try on Sunday against Toulouse Olympique, but he also made 167 metres in 17 carries and six tackle busts.

Centre: Albert Hopoate (Warrington Wolves)

A strong start to Super League life from the former Canberra Raiders man. He made 143m in 19 carries against a resolute Wakefield outfit on Saturday. And, he got himself on the end of Danny Walker’s breakaway to score just before the break.

Wing: Ethan Ryan (Bradford Bulls)

A hat-trick for the 29-year-old as he makes a splash for the side where his career began. He took them all well, but the third was an emphatic diving finish in the corner.

Half-back: Brodie Croft (Leeds Rhinos)

Came up with the goods at the Allegiant Stadium for the Rhinos. He scored two tries and set one more up in Sin City to humiliate the world champions on the biggest of stages.

Half-back: Harry Smith (Wigan Warriors)

Smith was tremendous on Thursday night, taking advantage of the quick ruck speed and playing off the back of it. He scored two tries, managed three assists and kicked superbly throughout.

Prop: Cooper Jenkins (Leeds Rhinos)

Two late tries land Jenkins in this team of the week, but the prop was excellent throughout, like so many in the Leeds line-up, making 130 metres and two clean breaks.

Hooker: Daryl Clark (St Helens)

Two tries in the south of France gets Clark into the team of the week. The hooker had a strong night against Catalans Dragons as Paul Rowley’s side put in an impressive performance.

Prop: Ryan Sutton (Bradford Bulls)

He was always going to be a big player for the Bulls this season and he played a pivotal role in the win over Toulouse, making 104 metres and 38 tackles.

Second-row: Junior Nsemba (Wigan Warriors)

Nsemba’s form fell off last season but he’s well and truly back to his best this season. He was too strong to handle for Leigh and he got a try and an assist to prove it.

Second-row: Shane Wright (St Helens)

In scoring a first Super League try since that famous effort against Leeds Rhinos last season, Wright managed to cap a strong performance in the south of France. He got an assist and made 126m from 19 carries, too, for good measure.

Loose-forward: Jordan Thompson (York Knights)

A superb performance from the York loose-forward, who helped drive his side to a win over Hull FC at the MKM Stadium. He made 36 tackles in the game and set the tone for the Knights to frustrate the home side.
