Super League Team of the Week

It’s that time of the week to reveal the Super League Team of the Week after yet another weekend of rip-roaring, entertaining rugby league.

Thursday’s game saw Warrington Wolves thrash Castleford Tigers, with Leeds Rhinos falling short at in-form Wigan Warriors on Friday.

St Helens hammered Hull FC on Saturday dinnertime whilst Huddersfield Giants looked impressive in their victory over Hull KR later in the day.

Catalans Dragons just about overcame Wakefield Trinity to round off Saturday’s games with Salford Red Devils emphatically beating Toulouse Olympique this afternoon.

1. Jai Field – Wigan Warriors

It’s the second week in a row that Jai Field has taken this position after another superb display in the Cherry and White of the Wigan Warriors. He absolutely carved up Leeds Rhinos on numerous occasions and took his hat-trick superbly with one of the tries of the season already to claim his third.

2. Jermaine McGillvary – Huddersfield Giants

Jermaine McGillvary made his first appearance of the season after missing the opening round at Toulouse Olympique, but my god did he make up for lost time. His metre-eating runs out of defence for the Huddersfield Giants were unstoppable and he took his try well.

3. Peter Mata’utia – Warrington Wolves

Castleford Tigers fans will have been holding their breath ahead of their away fixture to Warrington Wolves on Thursday night. And, they were left ruing their loss following a stellar performance from Peter Mata’utia. who dominated his opposite number and often ran rings around a number of the Tigers defenders.

4. Mark Percival – St Helens

St Helens enjoyed a comprehensive win over Hull FC on Saturday and one of their main strike points – amongst many – proved his worth as one of the most exciting centres in the competition.

5. Ken Sio – Salford Red Devils

There couldn’t be anyone else taking one of the wing spots after a four-try display against newcomers Toulouse Olympique. It’s not just his try-scoring exploits which need to be celebrated, though, it’s his overall work ethic and determination to help his Salford side out of defence that will impress head coach Paul Rowley the most.

6. Cade Cust – Wigan Warriors

Another week, another Cade Cust entry in the Super League Team of the Week. Though perhaps not as potent as Jai Field, Cust still produced a masterful performance to help Wigan to an impressive victory over Leeds Rhinos on Friday night.

7. Lewis Dodd – St Helens

What a young talent this halfback is! Lewis Dodd controlled St Helens’ game against Hull FC and looks to have taken over from Theo Fages seamlessly. He produced yet another brilliant try and controlled the fixture from start to end. Saints look incredible again in 2022 and this man will be a big part of that.

Huddersfield have found a real gem in Danny Levi. The hooker ran rings around the Hull KR defence in the first-half, with sniping runs from dummy-half helping the Giants keep on the front foot and into a 16-0 lead at the break.

10. Matty Lees – St Helens

In a game against a huge Hull FC pack, St Helens’ key men stood up and one of those was Matty Lees. His physicality was superb – especially against the powerful Chris Satae – with Lees truly leading from the front.

11. Sione Mata’utia – St Helens

Another week, another brilliant Sione Mata’utia performance. Since moving to the Totally Wicked Stadium ahead of the 2021 Super League season, Mata’utia has earned a reputation for himself as one of the most durable and hard-hitting forwards in the lea2gue and Saturday’s win over Hull FC was no different.

12. Chris McQueen – Huddersfield Giants

Chris McQueen really does seem to be enjoying his rugby at the John Smith’s Stadium under Ian Watson and he produced another stellar 80-minute display to help the Giants over the line against Hull KR. McQueen scored two tries and put in a big shift as Huddersfield claimed an impressive scalp.

13. Jordan Dezaria – Catalans Dragons

The loose-forward has taken his game to the next level in 2022 with the Catalans Dragons. Jordan Dezaria is 25-years-old and has had spells at Leigh Centurions and Toulouse Olympique but now looks to have fond a real home at his first club.

Substitutes

14. Danny Addy – Salford Red Devils

It was another brilliant week for Danny Addy who came off the bench to cause all sorts of trouble for Toulouse. The utility man will be an important player for the Red Devils in 2022 and he is showing that so far.

15. Patrick Mago – Wigan Warriors

The Warriors prop has settled into life at the DW Stadium seamlessly and he enjoyed another sparkling appearance in a Wigan shirt, taking some bulldozing runs and setting up Jai Field for his length-of-the-field effort.

16. Rob Mulhern – Warrington Wolves

The only thing better than his second-half try is his moustache! Rob Mulhern was in fine form for Warrington as they put Castleford to the sword on Thursday night.

17. Sebastine Ikahihifo – Huddersfield Giants

Talk about an impact off the bench! Sebastine Ikahihifo will always skittle defenders and he did that to numerous Hull KR players on Saturday afternoon.
