Super League team news as Salford Red Devils see more starters drop out and Hull KR confirm debut

Castleford Tigers v Salford Red Devils team news as Paul Rowley talks live

The Super League team news for today’s games between Wigan Warriors and Salford Red Devils, and Huddersfield Giants and Hull KR have been confirmed.

Round Six of Super League concludes with two matches featuring teams with very differing fortunes so far. Top of the table Hull KR travel to face winless Huddersfield Giants, whilst cash-strapped Salford take on champions Wigan at the Brick Community Stadium.

Wigan haven’t had it all their own way in recent weeks with Matt Peet’s side losing against Hull FC in the Challenge Cup and then being defeated at Headingley last weekend.

With the prospect of a third defeat in a row, they’ll be keen to put a halt to their poor form and fortunately for them they face a Salford team that comprises a number of academy players and new loanees, with Paul Rowley having to scramble to get just 17 players.

Huddersfield Giants are another team who have plenty of injury problems and they face the daunting task of trying to put an end to Hull KR’s 100% record.

The team news for both games is now in.

Wigan Warriors v Salford Red Devils

Wigan are boosted by the return of hooker Brad O’Neill after eight months out but he starts from the bench with Kruise Leeming keeping the starting role.

Jacob Douglas replaces Abbas Miski, as he did last week, with Zach Eckersley filling in for Adam Keighran once again but the biggest news is that Jai Field starts at full-back.

For Salford, it was less a case of who would play but more where they would play with the Red Devils only able to name 17 players on account of injuries and their salary cap restrictions. George Hill and Jonny Vaughan have been loaned in whilst three academy players also feature.

Kallum Watkins has dropped out though with the captain now playing meaning that Scott Egan joins the heavily-changed squad.

Wigan Warriors XIII: Jai Field; Jacob Douglas, Zach Eckersley, Jake Wardle, Liam Marshall; Bevan French, Harry Smith; Tyler Dupree, Kruise Leeming, Luke Thompson; Junior Nsemba, Liam Farrell; Kaide Ellis.

Huddersfield Giants v Hull KR

The hosts are still without many of their star players, particularly in the spine, with Adam Clune, Zac Woolford and Niall Evalds all out, whilst forward Oliver Wilson and Jack Murchie also miss out through suspension and injury respectively.

George Flanagan is drafted in to play alongside Tui Lolohea in the halves whilst Tom Burgess returns but only from the bench as Matty English and Fenton Rogers earn starts at prop.

Hull KR have handed a debut to Arthur Mourgue with incumbent full-back Jack Broadbent moving to the wing in place of Joe Burgess. That is the only change made as Willie Peters puts a clear focus on this Super League game despite their Challenge Cup clash against Hull FC sitting on the horizon.

Huddersfield Giants XIII: Jacob Gagai, Adam Swift, Jake Bibby, Taane Milne, Sam Halsall, George Flanagan, Tui Lolohea, Fenton Rogers, Ashton Golding, Matty English, Sam Hewitt, Harry Rushton, Leroy Cudjoe
