Leeds target makes shock switch

Shaun Johnson has agreed on terms to return to the New Zealand Warriors on a two-year deal from next season.

Current club Cronulla Sharks had already told the halfback that he wouldn’t be needed beyond 2021, so Johnson has moved swiftly to secure his career.

It was thought that Leeds Rhinos were in for the Kiwi after they themselves lost two halfbacks in the shape of Rob Lui and Kyle Eastmond, but Johnson has put those rumours to bed to sign with the club whom he made 162 appearances for.

The 30-year-old holds the all-time record for most points (917) and ranks among the club’s leading try scorers with 63.
