Super League target makes shock move to rejuvenate his career

Super League target Ash Taylor has signed a surprise train-and-trial deal with the New Zealand Warriors in a bid to revitalise his career.

The former Gold Coast Titans halfback rejected other NRL offers to play for the Warriors – who will be based in Redcliffe, northern Brisbane in 2022.

Even more remarkable is the fact that Taylor will be earning just $1000 a week – as compared to the $1 million a year he was on at the Gold Coast.

With a lot to prove, the 26-year-old will be hoping to earn a contract past the one year trial.

“Ash has backed himself to recapture his best form with the chance of a one-year contract with us,” Warriors recruitment manager Peter O’Sullivan said.

“He has some very achievable targets set for him and is looking forward to joining the squad next month.”

Warriors head coach Nathan Brown is confident Taylor will take the opportunity with both hands.

“Ash has had some challenges during his career but we all know what he’s capable of and he also brings plenty of experience,” Brown said.

“It’s exciting having him onboard and looking to prove himself during the preseason. He’ll provide a different dynamic and we think the change of club could be just what he needs.”
