Super League target makes shock move

Super League target and Brisbane halfback Anthony Milford has signed for South Sydney for 2022.

There has been a great deal of speculation as to where Milford would end up following a horror few seasons in a Broncos jersey, with the halfback not being given a new deal.

But, Souths boss Wayne Bennett could not speak highly enough of Milford, and, the veteran head coach recommended him to the club – despite the fact that he won’t be there next season.

Bennett spoke to the media earlier on, detailing how Milford could rejuvenate his career with the Bunnies.

“We’re really excited to have Anthony joining our club in 2022,” said Souths head of football Mark Ellison.

“He comes to us highly recommended by Wayne (Bennett) and Jason Demetriou who both worked with him at the Broncos where he played a leading role in taking them to the 2015 grand final.

“At his best, he is one of the most electrifying players in the game and we’re certain he will put his best foot forward with our club next season.

“He has a tremendous amount of experience for a man that’s only 27, we believe he has his best football in front of him.”

Milford has played just nine games for the Broncos in 2021, with head coach Kevin Walters dropping and recalling the halfback throughout the year.
