Super League target heading for shock train and trial contract

Super League target Ash Taylor has agreed to join the New Zealand Warriors on a train and trial contract in an incredible move.

Whilst his previous contract at the Gold Coast Titans earned him around $1 million a season, he will be on a mere tenth of that at the Warriors – who will be based in northern Brisbane next season due to ongoing COVID problems.

Sydney-based NRL clubs had been in for the playmaker, but he has opted to join the Warriors in a bid to reignite his stagnating rugby league career.

Jamayne Taunoa-Brown initially joined the Warriors on a train and trial contract in 2019 and was then rewarded with a long-term contract and so Taylor is hoping to follow in his footsteps by doing exactly the same – though a long-term contract with the Warriors seems remote.

It’s a case of Taylor putting himself in the shop window for 2023, but it does not appear as though he will be heading for Super League after all.
