Super League switch looms as Warrington Wolves half-back exits club

Warrington Wolves have confirmed that half-back Oliver Leyland has departed the Halliwell Jones Stadium with immediate effect.

The 25-year-old joined the club from London Broncos following their relegation from Super League at the end of 2024.

He was thrown into the starting side at the beginning of last season after injuries to Stefan Ratchford and Leon Hayes, and featured in Wire’s 48-24 defeat to Wigan Warriors in Las Vegas.

However, an ACL injury saw him play just five times in 2025, with his last top-flight game coming in May.

It has been a long road to recovery since that time, but with so long out, he now finds himself behind Ewan Irwin, Hayes and Marc Sneyd in the pecking order.

Sneyd will be replaced by Brodie Croft next year, so long-term there isn’t really a future at the Wolves for Leyland, so he has opted to move on.

Eagle-eyed fans will have seen that the ex-Londoner lined up for Huddersfield Giants’ reserve team over the weekend, as they strolled to a thumping win over St Helens.

It was rumoured that he has landed a trial deal with the Claret and Gold outfit, with the opportunity for him to earn a permanent contract under Jim Lenihan.

Those reports coincide with Warrington’s statement, released today, which says that the playmaker has departed to seek an opportunity elsewhere.

The Giants haven’t confirmed his arrival publicly at this stage.
