We have seen transfer announcements and rumours around a number of clubs such as Leeds Rhinos, Wigan Warriors, Warrington Wolves, Hull KR and Hull FC.
Leeds have been linked with the likes of former Huddersfield Giants star Danny Levi and Tyrone Roberts having signed Mickael Goudemand for 2024.
Wigan have also turned to France signing Tiaki Chan and could also bring in Adam Keighran from the Catalans Dragons as well. They have added Sam Walters and Kruise Leeming as well.
Warrington Wolves have made their move and beaten a number of clubs to the signing of Lachlan Fitzgibbon whilst Hull KR have acted swiftly for this season bringing in Brad Schneider.
As for Hull FC they have let go of Josh Griffin who joins Wakefield Trinity and it seems they are set to lose Jake Clifford as well.
As these rumours swirl it seems there are a number clubs focused on one key position in particular.
That would the halfback role which is not a surprise. There have been reports that Aidan Sezer will be leaving Leeds Rhinos at the end of 2023 whilst Leeds seem to be looking to keep Blake Austin.
They still need a halfback which seems true of Wigan Warriors with Cade Cust turning into a number nine and out of contract at the end of the year too.
Meanwhile, with Tyrone May and Mitchell Pearce headed to the NRL Catalans need a halfback or two as well.
The saga doesn’t end there though with Leigh Leopards and Salford Red Devils desperately trying to keep Lachlan Lam and Brodie Croft and the same could be said of Hull FC and Jake Clifford.
One of Super League’s most in form players, Clifford has looked like the best number seven in Super League.
Following this former Hull FC and Hull KR star Paul Cooke said he could return to the NRL and now a club has entered the race to sign him in the shape of his former club the North Queensland Cowboys.
Meanwhile, Wests Tigers, still looking for a halfback after Luke Brooks’ decision to join Manly Sea Eagles for 2024, are interested according to the Daily Telegraph who report:
“Wests Tigers have been offered Jake Clifford but a North Queensland homecoming looms more likely for the ex-Cowboys and Newcastle playmaker
“Clifford joined Hull FC this year but is expected to return to the NRL in 2024.
“The Cowboys have discussed signing the 25-year-old to add some depth to their halves.”
Now Jon Wells has reported on Sky Sports that the North Queensland Cowboys have made an offer for the halfback.
It was reported by the Hull Daily Mail that he has agreed to this offer.
Following this, the Daily Telegraph in Australia has also confirmed the news down under making it almost certain that Clifford will be playing for North Queensland in 2024.
