Super League stars Joe Westerman and Peter Mata’utia react strongly to the RFL’s live Sky Sports explanation on foul play crackdown

Last night, Sky Sports viewers were treated to a live special from the RFL’s operations officer Karen Moorhouse.

Following Hull FC’s demolition of Leeds Rhinos last night, Moorhouse swapped places with guest pundit Luke Gale as she answered questions from pundit Barrie McDermott and host Brian Carney, who were keen to express their dismay at the ‘sanitation’ of the sport.

Moorhouse, in response, said: “We have to police the game on what’s right for the sport and player safety.

“I take issue with that the RFL is doing something in isolation, we are bringing in the views of all people involved in the game to safeguard our sport but at the same time make sure it is still attractive for parents and children.”

A number of stars took to Twitter following the game, however, to express their view on the explanation they had just received from Moorhouse.

Warrington Wolves star Peter Mata’utia spoke out on the issue: “The game will struggle to move forward unless the players are involved and have a voice too.”

He wasn’t alone as Hull FC centre Josh Griffin joked about Moorhouse’s comparison with netball.

Griffin tweeted: “Off to play netball today. #shortturnaround.

Castleford Tigers forward Joe Westerman was also unhappy with the comparison: “Have I just heard rugby league been compared to netball.”
