Wigan Warriors star Toby King has been at Warrington Wolves and Huddersfield Giants in the last 15 months and has represented both England and Ireland as he stands out as one of the best centres in the competition shining for Wigan as they fight for the Super League trophy.
King’s future is up in the air. With Adam Keighran set to join Wigan in 2024, it has all but been confirmed that King will be leaving the club.
It was expected he would return to Warrington Wolves but this has been questioned by Stuart Pyke on Sky Sports who tipped him for a move to pastures new.
“With Adam Keighran joining Wigan next year it looks like he will be leaving. But will he be going back to Warrington or perhaps to a new club?”
It is easy to forget that King is still a Warrington Wolves player on loan at Wigan but he has made it clear that he wants to stay longer.
King reflected on the situation and moving around over the last 12 months speaking to Sky Sports recently.
He said: “The big thing was the pre-season.
“I had a big pre-season with the coaching staff which was all been brilliant, and they put me to work and I feel fitter and stronger.
“I loved my time at Huddersfield – I’m a Huddersfield lad so it meant I could move back home for a bit and there are some boys I know back there – but I’m just enjoying it now with Wigan.
“We’ve had a few chats about staying, so I don’t know what will happen with that. I just leave it all down to my agent and you try to not think about it as much as you can, but obviously it’s in the back of your mind.”
Also speaking to Sky Sports, Matt Peet said that the Warriors are keen on keeping the centre beyond this season which is no surprise.
“He’s made a good start and settled in really well. He’s a very popular member of the group and he seems to enjoy the environment,” the Wigan boss said.
“I know he’s really happy here and it would be great if he could be here beyond this season. We like him, we respect what he brings to the group, and I think he’d fit in well as a Wigan player.
“He’s made a great start, he’s fit as a fiddle, and I was really proud of him at the weekend.”
