Super League star set to appeal suspension

After the latest round of Super League action, Leeds Rhinos, Hull FC, Hull KR and Leigh Leopards stars were in trouble with the Match Review Panel.

In fact you could nearly make a team with the charges with 16 players charged and one player cautioned.

A huge eight of those charges were handed out for late contact and six charges came from the clash between Leigh and Catalans Dragons on Saturday. Four went to the French side and three of their charges were all for late shots.

There were three in a short space of time and two yielded yellow cards for Mike McMeeken and Michael McIlorum.

McIlorum’s hit seemed a little high which of course usually yields a red card.

This was referenced by Phil Clarke on Sky Sports who suggested he could have been red carded.

He said: “McIlorum was late and high. We have seen red cards for that. The important thing is he is off.”

The England hooker was given a one match ban for this but the Dragons are now set to appeal the decision tonight.

Hull FC have excepted the ban to skipper Carlos Tuimavave for a dangerous tackle on Wigan Warriors’ Jake Wardle despite Tony Smith being unhappy with the decision.

He received a two match ban.
