Super League star set for huge transfer

Leeds Rhinos, Warrington Wolves, Wigan Warriors, Hull FC, Hull KR and Huddersfield Giants have all completed major signings from the NRL for the 2024 season.

Among them are Lachie Miller and Matt Frawley who are Headingley bound, Kruise Leeming on his way to Wigan, the likes of Franklin Pele and Herman Ese’ese going to Hull FC and Peta Hiku to Hull KR whilst Jack Murchie is headed to Huddersfield Giants.

Warrington meanwhile have signed Lachlan Fitzgibbon from Newcastle Knights as well as Rodrick Tai.

They are believed to be signing Morgan Harper too which would signal the end of out of contract centre Peter Mata’utia at the club with Harper taking the last 2024 quota spot.

On this, Gary Chambers said: “No, nothing I’m aware of at the moment. That’ll probably be something that I’ll get to down the line.

“That’s for other people rather than me, mine’s obviously just to focus on what’s going on with the team at the moment and then what’s going to happen after that; then I’ll start picking up on it, but at the moment it’s Karl that’ll be working along with that about what’s happening with players.”

This likely means Mata’utia will head else where in Super League or back home.

Chambers also spoke about new man Tai: “We had the luxury in the World Cup that PNG were training at our base. We ran a number of sessions against the Papua New Guinea team, so we knew what sort of people were there training; good people and really helpful to the young kids when we were running shape against them.

“I remember Rodrick in the World Cup game at the Halliwell Jones, when he scored there he put in a big performance, and then obviously Sam identified him as a potential signing, and he just started ticking a few boxes the more we looked at him. He’s a dynamic runner, really athletic, he’s the right age, he wants to learn, he’s an intelligent guy, he ticks all the boxes that we’re looking to recruit for this club.

“You look at the PNG players and you know what you’re getting, you’re getting really athletic individuals who are tough and good people and that’s a really good start point. Then you put in there and get an environment, a real high quality environment and that’s nothing about where they’re playing or anything like that but if you can make your environment a bit better then obviously you’re going to get a real high quality player there.”
