Super League star seemingly makes big decision on his future

The last 12 months certainly haven’t been dull in terms of transfer stories whether it was Kruise Leeming’s sudden exit from Leeds Rhinos and agreeing a deal at Wigan Warriors for next year, Jake Connor’s shock return to Huddersfield Giants, Luke Gale’s move to Keighley Cougars before winding up at Wakefield Trinity alongside a returning David Fifita or indeed the business Leigh Leopards have done lately, there have been no shortages of big transfer stories.

But one that dominated discussions was the future of Tyler Dupree at Salford Red Devils.

The prop, who made his England debut in April, was the subject of a huge transfer saga.

Dupree started his career at Leeds before a move to Oldham where he impressed prior to earning a move to Salford with even better performances at Widnes so has gone the long way round.

However, after his England debut he made a transfer request to leave the club.

Salford’s Director of Rugby and Operations, Ian Blease clarified the club’s position regarding Dupree in the the following statement:

“I can confirm the club have received a transfer request from the agent of Tyler Dupree today. We have strongly refused the request, with the player still a big part of our plans going forward.

“As a club, we are committed to retaining our players and after a recent extension, Tyler is contracted until the end of 2025.”

Hull KR were leading the chase for Dupree and made two bids for him.

There was then a twist with Wigan Warriors putting in a bid for the prop with the Warriors suffering an injury crisis in the pack.

However, Dupree clarified recently that there has been “miscommunication” about the situation and stated that he will continue to play his best for the Red Devils.

Then former Hull KR star Paul Cooke claimed Dupree will be staying at Salford for the foreseeable future.

Speaking on Viaplay, Cooke said: “There was a bid from Hull KR. They were interested in bringing him but we’re now told that he will be staying at Salford for the remainder of his contract.”

That seems to be the case with Dupree reportedly telling fans after the defeat to Leeds that he would be staying.

Furthermore, Dupree also tweeted at the weekend “stick with us” a rallying cry which shows his commitment to the club.

So expect the prop to be staying with Salford in the years to come.
