Super League star seemingly “close” to signing deal after coach’s comments

Huddersfield Giants have a wonderful balance to their squad at the moment but with that comes the threat that some of your experienced players could retire.

Today Ian Watson was asked about the futures of three veterans in the shape of Chris Hill, Leroy Cudjoe and Jermaine McGillvary.

He revealed that conversations were happening with all three and recently McGillvary revealed, as he struggles with his knee, that he could retire at the end of this year.

Watson gave an update on all three today saying that Chris Hill’s future is “close” to being sorted whilst it seems McGillvary’s future is particularly up in the air.

“The conversations are on going and it helps that we have good young players coming through,” Watson said.

“Chris Hill we are close to getting him sorted out, that is ongoing.

“Leroy will be with us until he decides because he is passionate about the club and coaching so we are happy to have those conversations.

“As for Jez, a lot of them with be based in and around performances and what we and he feels he is at in terms of a performance level.

“You have a conversation about whether it is the right time to move in a new direction.

“The wing spots we have a lot of competition and a few young lads knocking on the door.”
