Super League star sadly sent to hospital after pre-season friendly

London Broncos

London Broncos woes have been worsened by a further serious injury.

Earlier in the week London Broncos confirmed the devastating news that rising star Bill Leyland would be out for the season and now Mike Eccles has confirmed a further two issues after their draw with Oldham.

Talking in a video shared to X, he explained: “We’re doing it tough at the minute with injuries. We lost Josh Rourke again today so he’s going to have to go to the hospital so that one looks like a bit of an unfortunate one again.

“We’ll get more results on Lewis Bienek as well with his results. We’re doing it tough from that side, but we’re not going to wrap people in cotton wool, because that’s not the answer. The answer is to work harder. We don’t do anything stupid in training, that’s not why we’re losing bodies. We’ve been a bit unfortunate.

“We’ve got plenty of work to do. As we knew, we know pretty much where we’re at, to be fair. It’s going to take us time to get up to speed, but the clear message is we’ll be working super hard this week, we’ll give them the weekend off and then we’ll is we’ll be working super hard this week, we’ll give them the weekend off and then we’ll get ready for the World Champions.”

As alluded to the Broncos’ first game back in Super League sees them travel to face Club World Champions St Helens who are fresh off a 52-10 win over Salford themselves.

In the final pre-season friendly of 2024 London Broncos made the trip up to League One outfit Oldham. It was a largely similar squad that made the trip up to Huddersfield just 7 days earlier, minus Bill Leyland who picked up an ACL injury and will now miss the rest of the season.

London looked set to claim the win but with the home side’s tails up and pushing for a win themselves trailing 18-16 London conceded a penalty around 20 metres out and not far off from the centre. Understandably Oldham opted to kick for goal and take the draw. It was Tyrer who had the responsibility and he made no mistake as he levelled the game with almost the last action of the afternoon.
