A Super League club has confirmed the immediate release of one of their star players.
Unsurprisingly it comes from Belle Vue and Wakefield Trinity.
Why unsurprising? Because the club signed David Fifita recently taking the club to eight overseas players leaving them with one more than the permitted quota.
Thus, the club have been forced to release one of their overseas stars.
This is Jorge Taufua with the club making the following statement:
“The club can confirm that Jorge Taufua has agreed a mutual release, which will offer him the chance to secure an opportunity elsewhere.
“Wakefield Trinity thank Jorge for his service and wish him all the best for the future.”
The winger joined the club almost exactly a year ago and was a major signing.
He impressed initially but as Wakefield have struggled in 2023 most of their star players have struggled to shine in 2023 including Taufua.
What Taufua does next remains to be seen.
It will be interesting to see whether he moves to another Super League club or perhaps to the Championship.
