Super League star out indefinitely

This weekend we turn our attentions to huge games as Wigan Warriors and Hull KR meet at Leeds Rhinos’ Headingley Stadium whilst Leigh Leopards and St Helens collide at Warrington Wolves’ Halliwell Jones Stadium in the Challenge Cup semi-finals.

Wigan are aiming to make their way to a second consecutive final as they aim for a second consecutive Challenge Cup trophy and a 21st in total. Their opponents meanwhile are looking to recreate the semi-final heroics we saw on the same ground against Warrington in 2015.

St Helens meanwhile are looking to add more silverware to their dynasty and a second Challenge Cup in three years.

There are against the surprise package of Super League in Leigh Leopards.

However, despite all the focus on the cup, Super League itself is at an interesting juncture with Catalans Dragons firmly ahead of the pack at the moment.

However, they have confirmed an injury setback for Arthur Mourgue: “Arthur Mourgue underwent scans to determine the extent of his injury after leaving the field injured during the match against Huddersfield.

“The scans have revealed an ankle syndesmosis injury.

“His recovery will determine his availability.”

So the fullback is out indefinitely it seems. These injuries are more often than not a six to eight week injury but can be as long as 12 weeks on occasion.

Mourgue has had a brilliant season in 2023 allowing Sam Tomkins to feature and shine in the halves.

He appears to be the long term replacement to Tomkins and the long term answer at fullback for the French side.

He could soon develop into the league’s best number one based on his pace and evasion but also his superb skill level being well versed in the halves and as a replacement nine.

Another Super League star, another Super League fullback in fact, Tex Hoy is out indefinitely after a hamstring injury.

He has now confirmed that he is out indefinitely saying on social media:

“Going to leave this here. Hamstring is okay. Following a plan of action from the medical staff to get it healthy but at this stage I am taking it week by week. My return to play is indefinite.”
