The futures of plenty of players at Leeds Rhinos, Wigan Warriors, Warrington Wolves, Hull FC and across Super League remain unclear.
That is the nature of the beast but one player attracting attention is Blake Austin.
It emerged after his Man of the Match display against Huddersfield Giants that he was open to offers as a deal had not yet been agreed with Leeds.
That weekend he was the Man of the Match against Warrington and said he wanted to stay at Leeds but had heard little from the club.
Following this he was named Player of the Month and reaffirmed this on Sky Sports News this week before Rohan Smith said the two had had a chat after these comments.
Austin has now addressed his future on the JBK Show and was asked if he would return to the NRL: “I am a pretty confident guy so I think I can still cut it. I’m off contract at Leeds and whatever will be, will be.
“I have never been afraid to do things a bit differently. If an opportunity came up to go home, that would be something I would look at and my kids would push me and force me to look at.”
He also said if he did return to the NRL he would like to try his hand at a new position: “I am really confident I could cut it. I think I could do a really good job at 14.
“I’d like to be able to play with the shackles off and come on when the game is at a dip.
“If I was going back I would want to go to a successful team and just focus on me but I’m open to all offers.”
When asked if he would sign for Wests Tigers who are looking at teammate Aidan Sezer and Salford Red Devils star Brodie Croft, he said: “Well they can give me a call if they want.”
That said he did underline his ambition to win a Grand Final over in England and that he is comfortable at Leeds: “I am really comfortable where I am at. I would love to win a title or a Challenge Cup over here.”
What happens next with Austin remains to be seen but he is certainly in red hot form at the moment.
