Super League star keen on position switch after England exploits

Super League

On Saturday night, Ash Handley picked up his first England cap.

It was a brilliant debut as he scored a hat-trick and created three tries for George Williams.

After the game, Handley reflected on his performance:

“I tried to focus on getting us out of yardage and carrying hard. I thought I did that as well so I was pretty happy with how it went.

“We sort of dominated in the second-half and didn’t have to do as much work coming out of yardage.”

The Leeds Rhinos star also stated how much he enjoyed playing with England skipper and Warrington Wolves star George Williams who created Handley’s tries and Handley returned the favour:

“I enjoyed playing with George. Obviously he’s a great player, one of the best in Super League, if not the best and his organisation skills and way he can find a pass means it’s great for me to be outside him. I’ve enjoyed playing with him.”

Handley has reflected on the break from Super League:

“I sort of came off the back of my injury after round four and I could only play two or three games so it was nice to keep going and be involved in this. It’s nice to be in a different environment and play with different players.”

He is enjoying his rugby at Leeds and is very keen on making the move to fullback:

“I’m just getting going, I’ve had that setback and I’ve played in numerous positions at Leeds. I’m just trying to get going and get a bit of consistency going wherever I play.

“I like playing full-back and hopefully I get a chance to play there and if it’s on the wing or centre then I’ll do a job there, it’s just about getting going and trying to get in my stride of things.”
