Super League star heads home for personal reasons

Given the size of their squad at the moment, it is easy to forget that Huddersfield Giants have lost some key men to injuries.

This is something coach Ian Watson raised himself.

“We were talking about a couple of injuries this morning and how we have had it pretty tough to be fair and how the guys coming back in can be a big shot in the arm to be fair in terms of confidence,” Watson said.

“You look at Joe Greenwood being out for a while, Theo Fages, Oliver Russell and you can keep going on and on, Ash Golding and you can keep going on.

“We are still picking up injuries now. Obviously Owen Trout has done his ACL, everyone knows about him and he is going to be out for a long period of time.

“We have got Jermaine who is in with a scan again this week.

“So we have had it a bit tough this week. It is what it it is. It’s rugby. We can’t worry or complain about it, we have to deal with it as a squad.”

Making matters worse this week the Giants are without star player Chris McQueen as he heads home for personal reasons for the time being.

“He’s gone back to Australia, he will be back on maybe Monday, he’ll be back for then.

“It is something he has discussed with us for quite a long while.

“You never know who you are going to draw in the cup or when the fixture will be and this was even before this year so it is one of them and he will be back next week.”
