We have seen a lot of huge transfer news from Leeds Rhinos, Wigan Warriors, Warrington Wolves and Hull KR whilst rumours have swirled around the likes of St Helens, Hull FC, Leigh Leopards and Huddersfield Giants.
There are a number of targets available and one key area many clubs will be looking at is in the spine especially in the halves and at fullback and a new target may be catching the eye.
That is Jack Walker. The former Leeds Rhinos star is Super League’s youngest ever Grand Final winner in 2017 at just over 18.
However, injuries worked against him at Headingley. He had a loan spell at Hull FC in 2022 but that was cut off by injury and he joined Bradford Bulls in 2023 but has now switched to Hull KR for the rest of the season and scored a delightful try on home debut against Hull FC.
When the clubs signed Walker, they made the following statement:
“Walker, with 70 Super League games under his belt at 23 years-old, will bring cover to the fullback position after Ethan Ryan suffered a broken jaw last week against Wigan Warriors.
“Having scored 3 tries in 5 games this season for the Bulls, Jack will bring speed and skill with the ball in hand when called upon to the Robins’ first team.”
Willie Peters said: ‘We need some depth in our fullback position with Ethan (Ryan) breaking his jaw, so Jack (Walker) will give us much needed depth there.
‘Jack has played at the highest domestic level and won a competition with Leeds. In my eyes, he’s a genuine Super League player and will fit in well with us at Hull KR. Also, it’s important that Jack plays every week so when he’s not in our squad, Jack will be available for Bradford.’
What will happen to Walker at the end of 2023 remains to be seen but his former teammate and Sky Sports pundit Jamie Jones-Buchanan has claimed he is “putting himself in the shop window” as he looks for a Super League contract for 2024.
