Super League star facing uncertain future

Scott Taylor is recovering from a dislocated shoulder after he headed to hospital after Hull FC’s Challenge Cup defeat to St Helens last week.

However, things aren’t as bad as first feared as Tony Smith confirmed earlier this week.

“Yeah, good news. No real big damage to his joint,” he said on BBC Radio Humberside.

“He’ll be rehabbed for the next two or three weeks with a bit of ligament straining around that area, but nothing real significant.

“The first fear was that we thought he may have had a fracture of the socket. There was a little bit of clunking going on in there, but it’s calmed down and settled down and the scans have all been good.

“So good news for Tag and he’ll be a few weeks. How long that takes, I can’t even know. Just depends how he repairs, how quickly his rehab goes.

“It could be a matter of weeks before he’s back on the field, but if you can get to a few weeks and it’s not quite stable enough and there’s still a bit of pain in there then we won’t play him.

“It’s pretty good news compared to what we were fearing.”

Naturally he didn’t feature against St Helens in the league on Thursday.

However, Smith also confirmed that Taylor’s future is still up in the air with the prop out of contact: “He’s a rugby league player and he’s been doing a great job. He’s been doing a good job in the way that he’s gone about it.

“He wants to continue to play well and finish the year well. Whatever happens in the future, that’s up to Tag and to decide about how long he keeps going.

“That’s never a subject that can be decided by anybody else. But he’s certainly trying his best for the team and the badge and the club that he loves. He wants to get back out there as soon as he can.

“There’s some things that are private. If I’m able to share, I will, and when I feel it’s appropriate, I’ll share things with you, but not every conversation that me and my players have are public, and for the public.

“We’ve had some discussions, but I’m not going to disclose where we’re at on those discussions, but thanks for asking.”
