Super League star expresses confusion at exit speculation & reveals long term contract at current club

Right now there is a lot of talk about off contract players in Super League and whether they will stay at their current club or if their rivals will swoop for them.

One player who would be in high demand would be Tui Lolohea.

His coach at Huddersfield Giants Ian Watson has been vocal about the fact he felt Lolohea should have been nominated for the Man of Steel in 2022 after a sensational season notching 29 assists.

It was reported in 2021 when Lolohea signed for the Giants that he had signed a two year deal which led to reports that he was out of contract this year and many saw him as one of the biggest names available.

But the player has revealed that he signed a three year deal with the Giants meaning he is not out of contract until next year.

Asked about the situation today, he said:

“I don’t know where that’s come from. I’ve seen this in the media before, they said that I was off contract and I think someone, Jermaine McGillvary messaged me saying when he was on Sky games saying I was off contract.

“I am definitely not off contract, I signed a three year contract at Huddersfield.”

He also addressed what is going wrong at the Giants in 2023:

“It’s obviously been a bit of a tough start so far. I think before we played FC, I thought we weren’t doing too bad, you know, we weren’t as bad as we have been.

“So, you know, the last couple of weeks have probably been a bit disappointing in terms of how we’ve performed in that. And you know, it is a bit of a tough time for us and we’re the only ones that can kind of get us out of this situation.

“So I think, you know, the main thing I want to try to do at the minute is, you know, try to keep us positive, you know, try to keep us, you know, get back to enjoying why we do it and getting back to how we play.

“I think the next couple of weeks are going to be important for us to see if we can respond to what he’s asking us to do and how we play. I think the good thing is we’re getting players back slowly, important players on our team and hopefully they bring value and add a bit and hopefully get a result.”
