Super League star could have played his last game for current club

It seems one Super League player has played his last game for his current club.

That is exciting young forward Owen Trout. A product of the Leeds Rhinos academy, Trout joined the Giants in 2020 and has established himself as one of the best up and coming middles.

This is why there is huge demand in the young forward across Super League from the likes of Leigh Leopards, Hull FC and others.

He has turned down an extended deal at Huddersfield and his season is now over with a season ending injury as revealed by a scan.

The Giants said:

“Owen Trout has confirmed that he will miss the remainder of the 2023 season with an injury, following a scan.”

This likely means he has played his last game for the club.

Ian Watson explained he in high demand last week: “I think there are quite a few clubs in for him.

“He is getting offers from a few places. He’ll have to make his decision on what he thinks is best for his career on the back end of that.

“It is hard to look in a different direction when people are throwing contracts at you and they are probably pretty appealing contracts.”

He explained why Trout is in such high demand:

“There’s not loads of middles knocking around who are young and British and you will see if people have more space in their salary cap than we have or someone else, that is how they will potentially get him in.

“That is the nature of a salary cap sport and it does make it really intriguing to be fair and difficult at times because you want to keep everybody but you know you can’t pay everyone what they are worth at that time so you have to balance out what is best for you and the club and for them.”
