A Super League player has been torn into by former St Helens man James Graham for a “disgraceful” act this week.
Graham played over 200 times for St Helens as well as 54 caps for England and Great Britain, and was on the losing side in six Super League Grand Finals, an NRL Grand Final and a World Cup final.
Speaking on his Bye Round Podcast, he tore into Leigh Leopards half Lachlan Lam this week.
Lam was captain for Papua New Guinea’s Pacific Cup game against the Cook Islands, due to Hull KR signing Rhyse Martin not being in the team.
Super League star called out for ‘beyond disgraceful’ act by James Graham
Referring to the game between PNG and the Cook Islands, Graham launched into an attack on Lam going down at one point in the game.
He said: “I’m doing my best not to swear but it was the worst decision I’ve ever seen in my life.
“Lachie Lam, that was beyond embarrassing. It was disgraceful. Greg Alexander said in the commentary the penalty should have been reversed and I agree; he should have been sent off. It was disgraceful play-acting.
“Lam has kicked the ball, the Cook Islands player has come to put pressure on, turned his back then Lachie Lam has jumped into the Cook Islands player – literally jumped – fallen back and got a penalty.”
“I’m so p***** off about it. It was disgraceful, he should be suspended for it.
“This game has no room for simulation, faking, play-acting or mimicking. I’ve been involved in some incidents where people can go ‘you can talk’, but our game has got no place for certain actions and no place for that. I can’t believe the referees were fooled, it p***** me off beyond belief.”
The incident he is referring to can be viewed as part of the video below.
