Super League star BANNED for huge game AND fined

The Match Review Panel met today as they always do.

They were reviewing the action from Betfred Super League Round 16.

Unlike some weeks recently, there were only nine players charged.

In fact only one player was banned.

James Harrison of Warrington Wolves was always going to face a nervous wait after a yellow card for a tackle against Castleford Tigers.

The tackle hurt Nathan Massey and ended the stand in hooker’s night.

Fortunately Cain Robb was on the bench.

It was this tackle that Barrie McDermott described on Sky Sports as: “A bad one that. James Harrison is a big man as well. It is a hip drop.”

Meanwhile, Phil Clarke believes Harrison will get banned for the tackle compounding Warrington’s problems in the middles: “I think he will miss a few games.”

This has come to pass.

Harrison will miss the clash against the club he played for on loan in 2020 during the pandemic: Leeds Rhinos.

This is because the forward has been hit with a ban and a fine for the tackle on Massey.

Interestingly, the last time we saw a tackle like this injury a player they were hit with a five match ban.

That was Morgan Knowles. The St Helens star injured Mike Cooper of Wigan Warriors.

Following the latest round of Betfred Super League matches, the Match Review Panel have issued the following sanctions:

Jonny Lomax (St Helens) – Grade A Strikes – No Further Action
