Super League sides to furlough staff

Super League sides Leeds Rhinos and Salford Red Devils have announced they have placed staff on furlough leave.

Several Championship and League One clubs have already taken advantage of the scheme, which sees the government pay 80% of employee wages up to £2,500 a month, whilst the country continues to battle the Covid-19 pandemic.

The Rhinos confirmed their decision this morning, with chief executive Gary Hetherington also stressing the need to complete the season despite current circumstances.

“We will certainly complete the season,” he said. “There is a real commitment throughout the game to do that and deliver that.”

Meanwhile, Salford have taken the measure to ensure job security for all employees and to protect the club’s future.

In a statement, they said: “Salford Red Devils will continue to keep supporters updated on the club’s activity throughout the suspended season across the website and social media channels.”
