Super League sides struck by crushing injury blows ahead of crucial fixture

It’s another big weekend of Super League action as Leeds Rhinos host Hull KR whilst Wigan Warriors and Warrington Wolves meet but in a vital game Hull FC host Castleford Tigers.

Hull are looking to continue to boost their play-off hopes as they take on Andy Last’s side.

A win could put them level on points with Hull KR should the Robins come up short against Leeds on Friday night.

As for Cas, Wakefield Trinity’s recent form has made it a necessity for them to start picking up wins.

If Wakefield beat Huddersfield Giants on Friday the two will be level on points by Saturday.

The team news is now in.

The Black & Whites will be aiming to build on the back on last weekend’s Hull Derby defeat over Hull KR in East Hull when they take on the struggling Tigers in the club’s annual Armed Forces Match Day.

Smith has made two changes to the squad that was announced in advance of the clash against the Robins, with Tex Hoy dropping out with a hamstring injury, while young forward Will Gardiner is also replaced.

The duo are replaced by Davy Litten and Harvey Barron.

The Black and Whites took the spoils last time out against the Fords in the Challenge Cup at Wheldon Road back in May. Cas’ last visit to west Hull was a thrilling Super League opener which finished in a 32-30 victory for the hosts despite a spirited Tigers fightback.

FC come into the game on the back of a Hull derby victory at Craven Park with an Adam Swift double helping the Airlie Birds to a 16-6 success.

There is only one alteration to Cas’ last squad picked ahead of their home clash with Leigh, as Jordan Turner misses out after suffering a thumb injury last Friday night and Mahe Fonua is the man to replace the centre.

Saturday could also mark another milestone for Liam Watts who is in line to run out for his 350th career appearance.
