Per reports Down Under, several Super League clubs are ‘interested’ in signing one of Sydney Roosters’ high-profile off-contract stars.
Former New Zealand star Smith is one of the highest-profile off-contract NRL players and it’s widely expected that he will leave the Roosters after having a difficult two years there so far.
Smith joined the Sydney club prior to the 2023 season but his time at the Roosters has been marred with controversy, particularly in 2024 when he was caught up in an off-field incident where he and several other players had to deny taking illegal substances.
Moreover, the 28-year-old reportedly missed a mid-season review which was subject to plenty of headlines Down Under and it’s now largely thought that he’ll depart the club at the end of the year.
Currently, Smith is sidelined after suffering a horror injury in Round 26 with the Kiwi injuring both his ACL and MCL. He began running last month, four months after his surgery.
It’s now being reported that Super League clubs are among several suitors for him for the 2026 season with Smith’s talents being undeniable.
He has racked up almost 150 NRL appearances, the majority of which came with Melbourne Storm before he linked up with the Roosters. During his time with the Storm he won two NRL championships and a World Club Challenge making him one of the most high-profile off-contract players.
It’s unclear which Super League sides are after him but those that are will face NRL competition with a post from The League Scene Pod reporting on the interest.
Taking to X, they said: “Brandon Smith is not short on suitors as he prepares to leave the Roosters after this season.
“News Corp report at least three NRL clubs have expressed interest, as well as some Super League sides.”
