Hull KR are doing it incredibly tough at the moment.
They have lost a number of players to injury including Lachlan Coote, Jordan Abdull and Sam Wood.
As the injuries mount up, the club have been open about wanting an immediate signing.
The Robins have signed NRL stars Peta Hiku (formerly of Warrington Wolves) and Oliver Gildart (formerly of Wigan Warriors) for 2024.
Could they bring them immediately?
“To be honest, yeah, we’re not looking down that track at this stage,” Willie Peters addressed.
“Unless they reached out to us to go, yeah, I want to come now, we’d certainly look at that, of course.
“Peta Hiku is playing at the moment and Oliver Gildart is playing really well in the Queensland Cup and he’s pushing. He still has aspirations. He wants to finish off what he started there.
“Although he hasn’t played the amount of games he would have liked, he’s still playing at a decent level. But he’s still got to set high goals for himself around how many games he wants to play, which I admire.
“He’s there to finish a job and wants to finish that. So, at this stage, no. I mean, who knows what could happen down the track.
“Also the problem at the moment would be quota spot because Peta is a quota player. So Oliver is probably the one that we could go to.
“But as I say, at this stage, he’s still got some aspirations there to play NRL. So, that’s what he’s striving to do, but if he came to us and said, look, I’m ready to get on the plane, I’m not going to say no to that either.”
However, he confirmed that they would like to bring Gildart in immediately:
“I’d have to have a look at it all, because you’ve got to look at all the pieces in terms of financial.
“The honest answer is if it worked, of course, yeah, we’d like to get him over, but I think for Ollie as well, to finish what he’s doing there is important.
“That’s what he’s doing at the moment. If he can get another opportunity in the NRL, it’d be even better for him for next year.
“But the position we’re in, of course, if we’re going to be looking for players and if Oli rang us up and said, yeah, I’m ready to come back then and we can make it work. Of course, we would make it work.
