We have some more huge games this week as Leeds Rhinos host Hull KR in a play-off four pointer, a meeting between bitter rivals as Wigan Warriors and Warrington Wolves meet in a vital clash in the race for the top four and you cannot take your eyes of Wakefield Trinity and Castleford Tigers’ fixtures as they battle for survival.
But that game at Headingley as Leeds and Hull KR meet feels vital. Leeds are in great form having beaten Huddersfield Giants, Warrington Wolves and Salford Red Devils in a run of games where they have only conceded four tries and scored 15.
They are starting to look like the Leeds side we saw in 2022 as they stormed to the Grand Final.
Hull KR meanwhile have been wobbling losing to Hull FC last week after a thumping defeat against Leigh Leopards.
However, things don’t get any easier for the Robins with a crushing injury blow ahead of their trip to Headingley as Willie Peters ruled out star man Mikey Lewis.
“He’s feeling the effects there, it’s more round his neck, it’s a bit of neck pain. He won’t play because he didn’t pass the protocols and Kane Linnett is the same so unfortunately both of them are out this week,” he said on BBC Radio Humberside.
“Hopefully it’s just this week. Obviously got to speak to the doc and the specialist and go through the protocols. So we’re hopeful it’s just a one week injury.
“The other one is Jack Walker. He has got a bit of a rib issue, he’s touch and go.”
Asked if Jack Walker has been training, Peters said:
“Not really, he is on light duties, we will make a decision on him later in the week.”
However, in positive news, Brad Schneider is set for his debut after joining from Canberra Raiders:
“Yeah, he should be. He trained with us today, he’s a really confident young fella and he is exactly what we need.
“This week we need some guidance and as a spine player Brad will come in and do that. He is very confident of himself.
“Directing his team round the park he is really good and he already knows all their names and so looking forward to seeing him play.
“We can’t expect too much from him too early.”
