Super League side suffer crushing injury blow

We have seen some massive games this week already with Wigan Warriors and Warrington Wolves meeting, Leeds Rhinos and Hull KR meeting as well as the Grand Final in waiting to many as St Helens and Catalans Dragons met on Thursday.

But in the midst of a relegation scrap today’s game was always going to be huge no matter what Wakefield Trinity did against Huddersfield Giants as Castleford Tigers head over to Hull FC.

The Tigers need a win as things begin to work against them including missing out on former Hull star to Josh Griffin to Wakefield.

Injuries too haven’t helped.

As for the Black & Whites will be aiming to build on the back on last weekend’s Hull Derby defeat over Hull KR in East Hull when they take on the struggling Tigers in the club’s annual Armed Forces Match Day.

Smith has made two changes to the squad that was announced in advance of the clash against the Robins, with Tex Hoy dropping out with a hamstring injury, while young forward Will Gardiner is also replaced.

The duo are replaced by Davy Litten and Harvey Barron.

The Black and Whites took the spoils last time out against the Tigersin the Challenge Cup at Wheldon Road back in May. Cas’ last visit to west Hull was a thrilling Super League opener which finished in a 32-30 victory for the hosts despite a spirited Tigers fightback.

FC come into the game on the back of a Hull derby victory at Craven Park with an Adam Swift double helping the Airlie Birds to a 16-6 success.

There is only one alteration to Cas’ last squad picked ahead of their home clash with Leigh, as Jordan Turner misses out after suffering a thumb injury last Friday night and Mahe Fonua is the man to replace the centre.

It has now been confirmed that Turner could be out for two months with a broken thumb.

Last provided a further update on the injury situation:

“We’ve got potentially three of four back for the Hull KR game, which will be handy. We’ve had lots not able to do what they want to do, which is perform well and play for us. So we’re looking good on the horizon,” he said on BBC Radio Leeds.

“For this game there’s one or two decisions that have to be made, the make-up of the bench and the starting edges with JT (Jordan Turner) going down.

“We’ve got a strong team out and will be looking for a good strong result.”
