Super League side set to take massive away day following to huge fixture

Last night we saw some great action from Golden Point drama as Leeds Rhinos lost to Hull KR, to a brilliant contest between Wigan Warriors and Warrington Wolves. Meanwhile, Huddersfield Giants showed what they can do against Wakefield Trinity.

That fixture gives Castleford Tigers a huge chance today as they take on Hull FC away. A win will open up a four point lead on Trinity in the relegation battle.

As for Hull FC it is a chance to further their play-off hopes and keep in touch with rivals Hull KR as the race for the top six really heats up.

There is competition for places throughout the Super League table and the weekend concludes with another big game as Leigh Leopards look to cement their standing in the top two with a win over play-off chasing Salford Red Devils.

Salford have been able to name a 21-man squad after recent injury woes but are still without Kallum Watkins.

As for Leigh, they’re still operating with only a 20 man squad.

However, their first 17 is almost all available except for Joe Wardle.

The Leopards may also be set to add to their squad.

” I will say we’re always open to communications to all managers,” Adrian Lam said on YouTube last week.

“We do have a small squad and part of our philosophy here is to keep the window open for players coming.

“We’re working hard to make sure we improve our squad but those players haven’t been mentioned but I’m sure they will do in the near future.”

Going into 2023 they signed the likes of Gareth O’Brien, Tom Briscoe, Zak Hardaker, Ricky Leutele, Rob Mulhern and Ava Seumanufagai which has turned them into genuine title contenders.

Before that it was players like Caleb Aekins, Nene MacDonald and Josh Charnley which took them to Super League.

Don’t forget the arrival of Papua New Guinea superstars like Edwin Ipape and Lachlan Lam.

Both have been red hot in 2023 and have been linked with moves to the NRL.

They have turned Leigh into trophy contenders. But as they look for a strong end to the season, Adrian Lam has admitted the club could make an immediate signing before the August 4th deadline.

“It’s a possibility. There’s still three or four weeks to be able to do that.

“I think it’s an area most clubs look at to see how you stand financially and positionally. So there’s a chance that it may happen.

“We’ll keep our eyes open on that and make some decisions as they are needed as it approaches.”

So there is plenty to be happy about at Leigh at the moment and thus it is no surprise that they are taking a massive away following to Salford tomorrow.

A huge 1,700 fans are set to make the trip in one of the best away day followings of the season.
