Recently Tyler Dupree’s move to Wigan Warriors from Salford Red Devils and Leeds Rhinos star Blake Austin’s move to Castleford Tigers have shocked fans but there is one transfer that feels like it was always going to happen and has been brewing for sometime.
Huddersfield Giants star Theo Fages made his name in Super League with Salford Red Devils and St Helens before joining Huddersfield in 2022.
However, it always felt like he should one day play for home town team Catalans Dragons and for a few months the transfer is brewing.
It seems that in the next 24 hours that move will be confirmed based on Ian Watson’s comments meaning the Dragons will confirm a major new recruit for next year with Mitchell Pearce and Tyrone May set to leave.
“All I can tell you is that I think there’s going to be an announcement in and around Theo maybe today or Tomorrow, so I’ll let that one unfold,” Watson said.
He then paid tribute to the halfback.
“I’ll just say the one big for us is that we fully support Theo in the decision that he’s going to come up with, he’s had a really tough two years, mate, to be fair and he’s had to make a decision which is the best decision for him and his family going forward long term.
“He’s been a champion for us and I’ll always be grateful for everything he’s done for us over the last two years in terms of on and off the field.
“Theo’s had to make a decision around a family decision and like I say there’ll probably be news on that probably shortly but I’d just say he’s an absolute champion of a bloke.
“He’s done a lot in the game anyway, he’s won a hell of a lot of things as well and deserves that mate to be fair.
“I mean he’s somebody who I hold massively in the highest regard for what he’s done and the kind of person he is as well. so that’ll probably become clearer in the next 24 hours I should think about where he.
“I’ll let that unfold because I think it’s more his story to tell than anybody else’s.”
It seems fitting that Fages should spend some time in his own country after starring for the likes of St Helens and Salford Red Devils in the past.
